2ND DRAFT OF DIGI PAK

My second draft is basically an improvement from my audience feedback and an improvement on trying to make my product look overall similar.
Below is audience feedback for my second draft, I asked my target audience questions to see what they like and dislike and what they would improve about my digi pak.
I believe this is crucial as throughout creating my digipak I can always refer back to what they would like to see on my digi pak and perhaps what they don't think is needed or needs to be improved.

I tried to do this by:
- adding more of the 3D effect to; the left inside, the right inside and the back cover.
-I also added a black background onto my front cover to help the colour of Shot Gun Shacks stand out.
- for the back cover I added a still from my music video, and added the conventions of a back cover;
legalities
barcode
record label
song list
-for the left inside I took a photo of my two actors, so that the target audience will see the similarities within the products.
-for the right inside I blurred the image

Within creating my digi pak, I wanted some more audience feedback. I put my 2nd draft on Facebook to get some feedback from a potential target audience. I asked on Facebook as it allows my product to be analysed by people perhaps with a knowledge on digi pak's and people without a knowledge. So, I can get a full and widespread view on my digi pak.

After improving my first draft I asked an target audience member who is very knowledgeable on creating Digi pak's and music adverts and music videos:

I then printed my digipak out to see what it would look like as a physical copy. This is key as I can see if it works well together as a product and if everything is visible and readable on the digi pak.

PROGRESS ON DIGI PAK

This is my 2nd draft of my digi pak. I originally used all screen shots from my music video to try and create synergy throughout each product. However, it didn't look visually appealing and conventionally that is not what artists do.

HOW I CHANGED MY DIGI PAK:

1. I needed to try and make my front cover visually appealing, as that is the first thing my target audience would see and it would determine whether or not they would buy the product. So I researched some front covers within my genre to see what they looked like:
Upon looking at these front covers for rock albums there are some very clear conventions. For example; none of the album covers have a conventional image of the band or the artist on.  The Stooges cover has Iggy Pop on it, but not a conventional image, it is very artistic and made to look cartoon. I also noticed that many of them were very colourful or had a unique pattern on the album making it iconic. So, in my didi pak I decided to incorporate both.

For my front cover, I drew the helter skelter, to make the album look different to a pop album, and added the 3D lines to create a psychedelic effect, to portray the rock genre and add the psychedelic genre, to attract a wider audience.

2. For my 2 CD's I decided to go with simple black CD's with the initials of the band on. I did this as I then used a screen shot from my video for behind the CD's so that my target audience can explicitly see that my products match:

I then needed it to look like the digi pak was all based around the same product so I added a psychedelic look to it:
I believe by having the CD's black and the background lighter it creates better overall effect as it all looks like the same product and fits with the rock/psychedelic theme.

This image will be placed on the right inside of my digi pak. This image is from the Hull Christmas lights switch on as the fireworks went up. I believe this was a good image as it shows the strobe lights and the fireworks in the air, with the added 3D effect I believe that it works well with the rest of my digi pak and also because it is blurred and colourful it can be up to an audience to take what message they get from the image.

The whole image is hand drawn from the band name to the helter skelter. Below is the process of creating my front cover and choosing which 3D effect looked the best.
- The first two images are the font style of my band name and how the 3D effect looked like on it's own. I thought it looked good on its own with the 3D effect but it would look better on a black background.
- The other 4 images are different , they show the process of the different levels of colour I have used and how many attempts I did, to finally get the correct colour evenness.

The two images below are my progress and process of  creating my full front cover:
It shows how:
- I made the background black
- Made the contrast between the black and the multi colours stronger
- Made the font colours brighter and richer on the band name compared to the colours on the background of the image.

CREATING MY BAND TITLE AND FRONT COVER

I designed these images simply because the song I have chosen is 'Helter Skelter'. I believed this was the easiest way for my digi pak to correspond with my music video as a helter skelter is featured many times within my music video. I finally decided with image 1, as i believed it was the most effective on paper, as the font was clear and the colours worked, but I also believed that it would work the best on photoshop, with a black background. But there are 2 other images, to see the progress I made when deciding

To figure out which logo I was going to use I designed a few hand written ones and the got feedback for them:

I then did another sheet and got my target audience to tally the band name design that they liked best:

IMAGE 1:
this first image I designed was to simply show off the helter skelter and the logo. I then added the red and blue lines to the drawing to make it look 3D, as that's what I was planning to do on photoshop.

                                                                     IMAGE 2:
this second image I went for the red to try and make it stand out more and to add more colour to the whole image. I also placed the band name on the slide and put a temporary album name on the body of the helter skelter. However, I did not like where the band name was placed as I felt like it was too small to identify.

                                                                       IMAGE 3:
this image I stayed with the red, but went with the original placing of the band name, but I don't think it looked effective enough and, it didn't stand out as much as the others.

MY FIRST DIGI PAK

This is my first official digi pak:
For my background behind the CD's I chose to screen shot from my video and then add a 3D effect, which could help create synergy throughout my digi pak and video, so it makes it all look like the same product from the same band.
I did this for all the other elements of the digi pak, excluding the front cover, which was hand drawn. I felt like it created a sense of unity through out my products.

However, the digi pak did not work well together. The back panels with the CD worked well as it suited however, two images are identical but the back cover is in full cover colour and the left inside is in black and white with only the red and amber lights showing.
I don't believe that this looks convincing as a digi pak as it doesn't work together in sync and just looks like different images made into a digi pak.

 AUDIENCE FEEDBACK:

I asked a potential target audience member to give feedback on my first digi pak, by asking:
-what she likes about the digi pak?
-what could be improved about the digi pak?

First Mock up
To fully see the process of my digi pak I first of all drew it up onto a piece of paper to really gather perspective on how I would design it.
