MUSIC VID FIRST DRAFT

This is my first draft. To improve I will need to film more shots as I have repeated some shots many times and I need to re-shoot some shots of the argument narrative as some of them are unclear.
There are a few gaps in my work as well so I will need to think of an extra narrative to add to fill the space up.

SHOT LIST

This is a shot list essentially gibing me a step by step on what to shoot and when to put the clip in within post-production. It also demonstrates progress within my video and how it started on paper and then went to a music video.

ANIMATIC

The use for an animatic is to show the sequence and the order of my music video. The animatic enabled me to understand and analyse if my video would work in a sequence together. It enabled me to fully gather the knowledge on whether or not my narrative would work and some shots needed to be added or taken away. The animatic allowed me to change certain clips if necessary and when add more if needed.

HEALTH AND SAFETY- RISK ASSESSMENT

I  believe that the health and safety and risk assessment is key as it allows me, as the director of the video to establish and be aware of the possible dangers. But also, for the actors within my video as they need to know if and when they're at rick of injury.

PRODUCTION PLAN

DAYS OF FILMING
Thursday 1st December + Friday 2nd December

Weather forecast for both days:
Thursday: Cloudy, 80% chance of rain after 6:00pm.
To overcome this problem of rain being in my video, I will attempt to get my filming done before 6:00pm.
Friday: Cloudy, but dry.
This will allow me to get more filming done outside, and if the rain was a problem on the 1st, then I can re-film in the same location, just without the rain.
TIME:
I will be filming straight after college, so, around half 4

LOCATION
I have already gathered footage from Hull Fair, for the first part of the narrative. For my second narrative I will be filming an argument in a house, which then ends in one of the characters storming out into the street.

ACTORS:
There will be a male and a female involved within this narrative, who will be arguing.
The female actor is 17 years old and the male actor is 18 years old.

Thursday 1st: shots inside the house and of the actors arguing.
These shots will be for my second narrative, of the argument sequence.
These shots are vital as they bring a story to my music video and not just shots of Hull Fair.

Some conventional shots I will be taking for this day:
medium close ups X5
Tracking shot X3
close up X4
High angle X3
Low Angle X2

Friday 2nd: shots outside the house
I haven chosen this day to shoot outside as this day has better forecast weather.
These shots are there to portray how angry the male actor gets and storms out of the house.

Some conventional shots I will be taking for this day:
Tracking shots X4
long shots X2
Pan X2
Medium close ups X4

For the 1st there will be tripods involved when filming some of the medium close up and close ups. However, for shots from a distance and shots outside, it will be a hand held mobile camera.

Difficulties I may come across:
-the weather
-actors not turning up
-equipment fully booked up

Overcoming the difficulties:

Weather: look at the predicted forecast for the days I have planned, and if one day is dryer than the other film outside on the dryer day and inside on the rainier day.

Actors not turning up: give them a weeks notice to fully understand and not plan to do anything else during the time of filming.
If they do not turn up but tell me a few days before, I can try and rearrange another actor for the day.
If they do not urn up at all, I would do the shots I could with a  single actor and then have to reschedule another day to film with them both.

Equipment fully booked: I would need to book the equipment needed in advance to make sure I could definitely get the equipment required for my video.
if the equipment I had booked out had not been returned then I would have to either book out the identical piece of equipment or similar for that day, or have to wait for that equipment to come back in and re-shoot another day.

TEST SHOTS

I chose to do some test shots to see what type of narrative would fit my song. I firstly decided to go with many scenic shots, which captured sunsets and had lens flares within, which would've added a natural narrative to my video.

I then went down the fair ground route and recorded a rollercoatser in motion, I believed that this suited my song better and linked in with the theme of a helter skelter.
My other two shots are on the helter skelter, I chose this narrative as it linked with the song and I visually believed it looked impressive.

STORYBOARD

This is my storyboard, it allowed me to structure my music video and allowed me to plan ahead. Some shots within this storyboard will not feature within my music video, this could be due to ;
weather
actors
location issues
etc

I am very confident that I will keep my hull fair narrative in the video as it fits the song and is visually and aesthetically impressive.
I also think I will keep the argument narrative within but I may have to re-shoot some shots and add an extra part to the narrative to make the whole video more entertaining

SYNOPSIS

I have chosen Helter Skelter by The Beatles. My idea is to create a fast paced, fast edited and visually bright video as I feel like this matches the song. I will have a split narrative, one of my narratives will be at Hull Fair and Bridlington, as both of these locations have Helter Skelter's and bright lighting. The second narrative will be an argument between a man and a woman, who are in a relationship, as I believe this is what the song is representing, a man who doesn't understand a woman. My band I will be creating will be called the 'Shotgun Shacks' and they will be a rock band, to match the songs genre.

LYRIC ANALYSIS

From analysing the lyrics I have decided that whenever it says 'Helter Skelter' there will be a clip of a helter skelter in the music video. And from looking at the lyrics the 2nd part of my narrative is of an argument, so any lyrics that could be seen as 'normal' talking in everyday life will be a part of the argument narrative.

CASTING

When preparing to film I believe it was the best idea to fully think of the cast before hand. I wanted to attract a youthful audience so, I decided to cast two members of the youth for a youthful relationship.
The image above are the two people I casted. This was from my first draft. I chose to stick with this cast as from my audience feedback I was able to develop an understanding that my target audience could relate to the situation and the video.

Other reasons for casting:
Mise en scene - Costume; youthful, branded, everyday clothing, perhaps create verisimilitude for viewers.
Location - in house, relatable for coupes who argue, as it is behind closed doors
Props - no predominant props, more just words and angry hand gestures
Lighting- red to connote passion and love yet danger.

Cinematography- Two shot; unity but also the break up of the unity they used to have
over the shoulder; we see from the characters POV
POV- we see and feel like a part of the story as the characters are identifying us

Editing- Shot reverse shot- discussion, feel a part of the story, break of the 4th wall.
cross cut, between hull fair and argument narrative, represent the frantic situation
